So, my New Year’s Resolution is to systematically record my financial expenditures…….daily! That’s the best way I know to achieve a balanced budget.
Yeah, I know. You’ve been there, done that, got the T-shirt!
But, hey! The good news is it will only take five minutes a day to track my finances with my new 2012 Big EZ Bookkeeping System! How many of you want to join me in this Resolution?
That means today I will be coming up with my expense categories, setting my budget for this new year and inputting my numbers on the pre-formatted budgeting spreadsheet along with my beginning bank balance (on the Period One Checks worksheet).
What else will I be inputting today? My beginning balances on the Account Balance Tracker for all other accounts. In my case, I am going to enter the beginning balance of my savings account, my investment account, and my high school son’s checking account (since he doesn’t have enough activity to warrant his own Big E-Z system!).
Hmm…..I also want to track my credit card balances, so that data gets entered too. And any expenditures I may have spent today, January 1, 2012, go on the Checks worksheet (for checks or debit card expenditures), or on the Cash&Charges worksheet (for cash or credit card expenditures). (Luckily the Kindle books I got were all free!)
And I’m done!
Done with my longest entering-of-data for the entire new year! From now on, it’s all down hill simply entering my transactions on a daily or weekly basis.
Everything else in Big E-Z Bookkeeping is an automatic cumulative report, the kind that makes accountants happy because tax forms are so much easier to fill out. Read my January newsletter with a Customer Spotlight highlighting one just such happy accountant.
